Rutgers Sweeps Morgan State at GW Invitational

  • WASHINGTON, DC – The Rutgers women’s volleyball team (2-2) swept Morgan State, 3-0 (30-19, 30-15, 30-21), in the first match of the George Washington Invitational earlier today. Junior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) led the way for RU by posting her second double-double of the season, with 14 kills and 14 digs against the Lady Bears (0-4).

    In addition, senior Lauren Venarchik (West Chester, PA) tied a career-high with four block solos, while adding three block assists. With four block solos, Venarchik moves into fifth-place on the Rutgers all-time list for block solos, with 60.

    The Scarlet Knights won behind a balanced attack, as seven team members recorded at least two kills and two digs during the match. The Scarlet Knights also held the Lady Bears to a .116 hitting percentage, while hitting .321 themselves.

    Freshman Sandra Nunner (Muenster, Germany) had 10 kills and a .438 hitting percentage, while sophomore Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) added 11 digs

    Rutgers will return to action later today at the George Washington Invitational, for a
    3:00 p.m. match-up with the Liberty Flames. Tomorrow, September 7, Rutgers will play Radford at 1:00 p.m., and then face the host Colonials at 5:00 p.m.
