PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 5, 2009) Rutgers volleyball junior outside hitter Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic District 2 team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. First-team selections from each district advance to the Academic All-America ballot and the national team will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Saxton currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a double major in sociology and journalism and media studies.
Saxton leads the team in kills with 319 this season. She currently ranks eighth in the conference in kills per set with a 3.51 average. The RU co-captain owns a 3.81 points per set average, which ranks ninth in the BIG EAST.
Earlier this week, Saxton was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
To be nominated for all-district honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
Saxton and the Scarlet Knights return to action this weekend when the squad hosts Connecticut on Saturday and St. John’s on Sunday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. for both matches.
