RU's Saxton Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team
Outside Hitter One of Two BIG EAST Student-Athletes Honored

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 23, 2009) - Rutgers volleyball junior outside hitter Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) was named to the  ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) announced Monday.

Saxton was one of 18 Division I volleyball players to be named an Academic All-America® and one of two BIG EAST players, along with Pittsburgh’s Megan Dooley, to receive the honor.
 
Saxton currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a double major in sociology and journalism and media studies.
 
Saxton led the team in kills this season with 380. She finished the season ranked seventh in the conference in kills per set with a 3.55 average. The RU co-captain averaged 3.91 points per set, which ranked ninth in the BIG EAST. Saxton earned two BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selections during the season.
 
To be named an Academic All-American, a student athlete had to have been selected to its District’s first team. Initial nomination criteria at the District level includes being a varsity starter or key reserve, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reaching sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by their sports information director.
