Rutges Swept by Syracuse in BIG EAST Action

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Rutgers volleyball team (5-16, 2-9 BIG EAST) lost by score of 3-0 (19-30, 18-30, 15-30) to BIG EAST rival Syracuse (11-20, 5-6 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at the College Avenue Gym.

Junior Amanda Meyer (Naperville, Ill.) led the Rutgers offense with seven kills, followed by freshman Sophie Cook (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with six and senior Tamarie Macon (Fayetteville, N.C.) with four. Also contributing on offensive end was junior Mallory McEnroe (Grand Rapids, Mich.), sophomore Roxy Calder (Oceanside, Calif.), and freshman Stephanie Moore (Dallas, Texas) as they each chipped in three kills apiece.

Freshman Brittani Rendina (Lisle, Ill.) had a team-high 10 defensive digs, while Calder added nine digs. Calder also led RU with a match-high 19 assists. Senior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, N.J.) and Meyer posted seven digs, followed by Macon with five.

The Scarlet Knights will break from its conference schedule to host Fordham on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7:00 p.m., before ending the regular-season home slate against instate and BIG EAST rival Seton Hall on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 2:00 p.m. Rutgers will close out its 2006 campaign on the road, taking on St. John's (Nov. 11) and Connecticut (Nov. 12).
