Rutgers Men's Basketball Visits Robert Wood Johnson

New Brunswick, N.J. (Oct. 20, 2011) – The Rutgers men’s basketball team took time Wednesday to visit the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, visiting patients and handing out autographed basketballs, t-shirts and posters.
“The reason we do these types of visits is that we realize the visibility we have as Division I athletes and we want to use that in a positive manner,” said director of player development Eric Murdock. “It’s not about us, it’s about giving back to the community. To see these kids smile, and to have them forget about their circumstances for even a minute, it’s inspiring and it means a lot to our players.”
The visit was coordinated by Murdock and RWJ special events manager Rachael Fonseca.
“Whenever we can do something like this, we obviously want to,” said head coach Mike Rice. “It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day craziness of college basketball, but spending just a few minutes with these children and their families – it puts life in perspective. I think our guys might get more out of it than the kids.”
