Jordan, Wyckoff Named To All-Academic Team
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 23, 2014) - Former Scarlet Knight Chris Wyckoff (Toms River, N.J.) and rising senior D'Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were among the Division I men's track and field student-athletes named All-Academic by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced Wednesday.
Wyckoff and Jordan were among the total of 496 men from 165 institutions to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25.
Jordan, a labor studies major, compiled a 3.26 grade point average. During the indoor season, Jordan was the American Athletic Conference runner-up in the 400m and also placed eighth at the conference championships in the 200m. He was also named the AAC Track Athlete of the Week in early February after capturing titles in the 200m and 400m and helping the Scarlet Knights to a second place finish at the 2014 Metropolitan Championships. During the outdoor campaign, Jordan took home a silver medal with RU's 4x400 team at the AAC Championships and placed fourth in 400m. He also participated at the NCAA East Regional in both events.
Wyckoff, a kinesiology major, boasted a 3.55 grade point average. This past outdoor season, he took fifth at the American Athletic Conference Championships, sixth at the IC4A Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Regional. He opened the outdoor season consistently clearing 5.10m in his appearances at the Fred Hardy Invitational, Colonial Relays and Spec Towns Invitational.
In addition to the USTFCCCA All-Academic individual awards, Rutgers also earned team honors on Wednesday. To qualify for the team, schools must attain at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade point average. The Scarlet Knights achieved a 3.13 grade point average for the academic year and tied with Nebraska with the highest GPA among the five Big Ten institutions represented.
