Three Scarlet Knights Recognized in Intermat Preseason Top 20

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Three Rutgers wrestlers were tabbed top-10 grapplers in the Intermat Preseason Rankings, released this week. 2015 All-American Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) was ranked No. 8 at 141 pounds, redshirt senior Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.) was ranked No. 9 at 165 pounds, and redshirt senior Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) was ranked No. 8 at heavyweight.

The three wrestlers were also ranked in the FloWrestling, Amateur Wrestling News, and WIN Magazine Preseason Rankings. Ashnault was ranked No. 8/8/6, Smith was tabbed No. 10/12/8, and Perrotti was ranked No. 16/11/12.

Ashnault went 29-8 as a redshirt freshman last season en route to eighth place at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis. Perrotti posted a 20-10 record and advanced to his second NCAA Championships. Smith went 20-10 and qualified for the third NCAA trip of his career.

The Scarlet Knights begin the year with their annual wrestle-offs on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. A week later, Rutgers officially starts the season with the second annual installment of the Rutgers Duals on Sunday, Nov. 1 against Centenary, Franklin & Marshall, and Binghamton.

Both events will be held at the College Ave. Gym. Admission to wrestle-offs is free of charge. Tickets to the Rutgers Duals can be purchased here.
