Volleyball Welcomes No. 15 Purdue

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Nov. 18, 2015) - The Rutgers women's volleyball team closes out its 2015 home slate with two matches this week, beginning with a contest against No. 15 Purdue on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The first serve against the Boilermakers is set for 7 p.m. at the College Ave. Gym.

The first 20 students in attendance will receive a free Fat Sandwich. Students also have access to courtside seating and free pizza before the match.

Rutgers split last week's matchups home and away, suffering losses to Indiana on Wednesday night at the Barn and to No. 16 Illinois on Saturday night on the road.

Sophomore outside Meme Fletcher (Overland Park, Kan.) maintained her rank in the conference standings at fourth in kills per set (3.69), while senior setter Anna Sudbury (Tomahawk, Wisc.) remained 10th in assists per set (8.82). Senior libero Ali Schroeter (Bakersfield, Calif.) sits in ninth in the league with 3.44 digs per stanza.

Purdue moved up two spots in the rankings following a pair of four-set victories over Maryland and Northwestern last week. The Boilermakers carry a three-match winning streak into the contest.

The squad has at least one Boilermaker in the top 10 of the conference rankings for all six major statistical categories. Faye Adelaja ranks third in hitting percentage (.404), followed by Danielle Cuttino in seventh on the chart with a .344 hitting average. Cuttino also ranks ninth in blocks per set (1.20). Annie Drews sits in second in kills per set (4.23), while Ashley Evans is in fourth in assists per set (11.08).

Head coach Dave Shondell is in his 13th season with the Boilermakers.

Purdue has proven victorious in all five meetings between the programs, most recently defeating Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 2 of this season.

Despite a surge in the second set of the match, the Scarlet Knights were unable to top the 18th-ranked Boilermakers, as they claimed the match by scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-14. The contest marked the second ranked opponent in as many days at the time for RU.
