MLAX Stays Active in the Community
Oct. 31, 2016
With the fall season in the books, Rutgers men's lacrosse took time out over the last weekend in October to give back to the community.
Rutgers senior Collin Scarpello currently serves as a volunteer firefighter. On Saturday, he was joined by teammates Jules Heningburg, Kyle Pless, Christopher Peters, Patrick McCabe, Alex Hatzopoulos, Connor Vercruysse and brother Christian Scarpello for the "National Stair Climb for the Fallen Firefighters".
The players climbed 2,220 steps at Citi Field to honor the fallen FDNY firefighters and first responders who were killed on September 11, 2001, and raise funds to help programs for surviving family members of firefighters across the country.
Saturday also saw four players (Christian Trasolini, Casey Rose, Steve Hillenbrand and Owen Mead) attend the Embrace Kids Halloween Party. The players spent time with 6-year-old Anthony, who will be matched up with the team this year as an honorary member.
Finally on Sunday, 21 Rutgers players, as well as members of the coaching staff participated in the Kyle Kirst Coaches Clinic. The second annual clinic was held in memory of Kyle Kirst, a Rutgers men's lacrosse alumni who passed away unexpectedly last summer at age 47.
