Scarlet Knights earn new ranking after weekend sweep of No. 19 Oklahoma, Virginia

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers wrestling moved up one position to No. 11 in the latest USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Coaches Poll, released Tuesday afternoon.
The new ranking comes after the Scarlet Knights (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) swept then-No. 19 Oklahoma and Virginia last Saturday at the 2017 Journeymen Northeast Duals in Clifton Park, N.Y. RU secured 14 out of 20 possible individual bouts, as redshirt senior 149-pounder Eleazar DeLuca, sophomore 125-pounder Nick Suriano and redshirt freshman Michael Van Brill all picked up decisions over ranked foes.
Penn State (2-0) received all 16 first-place votes to remain the unanimous No. 1 team in the country, while second-ranked Ohio State (1-0) maintained its position after a solid 31-12 victory over then-No. 11 Arizona State (0-2) over the weekend.
Including PSU, OSU and RU, 10 programs from the Big Ten Conference are represented in the latest coaches poll, as No. 3 Michigan (1-0), No. 6 Minnesota (1-0) and No. 8 Iowa (0-0) all reside in the top-10. Other Big Ten Schools in the poll include No. 14 Illinois (0-1), No. 15 Nebraska (0-0), No.18 Wisconsin (0-0) and No. 22 Purdue (3-0).
