No. 10 MLAX Stays Unbeaten with 12-5 Win over Wagner

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - No. 10 Rutgers men's lacrosse continued its unbeaten start to the 2017 campaign on Tuesday afternoon, downing Wagner 12-5. The Scarlet Knights improved to 4-0 with the victory over the Seahawks (1-3).

RU was in control throughout the game, scoring the first 10 goals of the contest. Rutgers held a 42-19 advantage in shots, 34-23 lead in ground balls, and forced Wagner into 23 turnovers.

"Midweek games are hard on everybody, but there's no such thing as a bad win," head coach Brain Brecht explained. "This was a good team effort and a good team win today. I'm pleased with how we played throughout the field and understood our matchups. We need to keep getting better and I hope today gave us the opportunity to grow some depth and keep improving."

Christian Mazzone led the team with three goals, his second career hat trick. Jules Heningburg had a team-high five points with one goal and a career-high four assists. Nine different players scored on the day, including Charlie Nicklaus' first career goal, Chris Groel's first goal since 2014, and FOGO Joe Francisco's first career goal. Chad Toliver, Kieran Mullins and Jeff George also tallied. Mullins added three assists for a four-point day.

Max Edelmann played the majority between the pipes for the Scarlet Knights, making seven saves. Francisco was 12-of-16 at the faceoff 'X', tying his career-high for faceoff wins and scooped eight ground balls.

The Scarlet Knights caused 16 turnovers as a team, led by three from Michael Rexrode and Kyle Pless, who each also had five ground balls.

Rutgers is back in action this Saturday when they host No. 19 Brown. That game starts at 2:30 p.m.
