Women's T/F Outdoor Campaign Kicks Off at Bulls Invite

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Rutgers women's track and field team kicks off the 2017 outdoor season this weekend with a trip to Tampa, Florida for the Bulls Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Scarlet Knights have opened the outdoor campaign at the Bulls Invite each season since 2009.

Rutgers wrapped up the indoor season with four Scarlet Knights earning All-East honors and placing sixth in the 44-team field at the ECAC Championships in Boston, Massachusetts.

Junior Bria Saunders was named the meet's Most Outstanding Performer after capturing silver in the 60m and 200m.

Senior Bryanna Grant took home the triple jump title in setting a new Rutgers record at 12.62m (41' 5"). Additionally, a pair of Scarlet Knights took bronze with senior Sarah Robbie in the 800m and sophomore Phyllis Gordon in the 400m.

Other notable performances include a PR by junior Brianna Haspel in the 1000m and season best by Paige Senatore in the 3000m.

Rutgers captured four titles at last season's Bulls Invite led by former Scarlet Knight Gabrielle Farquharson setting school records in the 100m and 200m along with first place performances by Bryanna Grant in the triple jump and the 4x100m relay squad.

Grant, who captured four triple jump titles and set a new school indoor record this winter, set a then-PR of 12.18m (39' 11.5") a year ago in Tampa.

Returning Scarlet Knight, junior Bria Saunders, was a member of the winning 4x100m relay team, which posted an ECAC qualifying mark of 45.62. She also had a top five finish in the 100m (11.78), which was .01 second off her PR, and the 200m (23.88).

Additionally, sophomore Phyllis Gordon made her Rutgers outdoor debut checking in at 24.04 in the 200m for fifth place.

The outdoor season continues for the Rutgers women's track and field team with the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary on March 30 -- April 1.
