Mirabelli Captures Big Ten Javelin Title

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- Junior Christopher Mirabelli defended his title in the javelin Friday night at the 2017 Big Ten Track and Field Outdoor Championships in University Park, Pennsylvania.

The Lumberton, New Jersey, native secured the conference title with a throw of 75.17m (246' 7") on his first throw of the event. The toss just missed the Big Ten record of 75.23m (246' 10") set by Ohio State's Bill Stanley in 2013. Mirabelli won the Big Ten championship last season with a throw of 73.24m (240' 03").

Senior Thomas Carr also medaled for the Scarlet Knights with his third-place throw of 72.41m

The Big Ten Championships continue tonight through Sunday.
