Women's Cross Country to Race At Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown

Rutgers Gets Underway on the 5K Course at 3 p.m.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's cross country team is back to racing on Friday, Sept. 22 when the Scarlet Knights participate in the fifth annual Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College. The 5K race will take place at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
Rutgers will be one of 23 teams competing on Friday, which also includes four teams ranked among the Top 30 in the latest USTFCCCA Poll. Among the ranked squads the Scarlet Knights will be racing next to include No. 7 Providence, No. 26 Indiana, No. 27 Georgetown and No. 28 Harvard.

Rutgers' appearance in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown marks the second competition of the 2017 campaign. RU opened up the year at the Lehigh Invitational back on Sept. 1.
In their first meet of the year, the Scarlet Knights were led by its youth and took second place behind a West Virginia squad, who is currently receiving votes in this week's USTFCCA Poll and is ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Freshman Olympia Martin led the pack in her collegiate debut taking seventh on the 6K course in 22:16.48. Sophomores Nadia Saponara and Emma Bergman finished in eighth and ninth respectively, each posting new personal bests.
Following Friday's race, Rutgers will head back to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh on Friday, Sept. 29. It will be the same course RU ran on at the Lehigh Invitational and will race at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in November.
