(133) collected individual titles to highlight action for No. 17 Rutgers wrestling at the "Shorty" Hitchcock Memorial Classic Saturday afternoon in Millersville, Pennsylvania.
In total, eight Scarlet Knights earned top-three finishes, with Kyle DiNapoli
(133), John Van Brill
(157) and Joseph Grello
(174) all collecting runner-up performances after advancing to their respective title bouts. Nick Santos
(149), Jordan Pagano
(174) and Kevin Mulligan
(197) each finished third for RU.
Gross earned a 7-3 decision over Andrew Piehl (Navy) in the heavyweight title match, as the senior collected three takedowns in the final 1:08 of the bout for the win. Gross went 4-0 during Saturday action, winning all of his matches by decision.
Firestone faced DiNapoli in the title bout at 133 pounds, and used a first-period takedown, followed by a reversal in the second period and the riding time point for the 5-1 final. Firestone also went 4-0 at the tournament, which included a round of 16 pin to open Saturday's action.

In its last dual match Friday night, Rutgers used five individual wins, including major decisions from No. 2 Nick Suriano
(125) and No. 12 Richie Lewis
(165), to defeat No. 24 North Carolina, 18-17, on criteria at the RAC.
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Friday, Dec. 19 when it hosts Hofstra at the RAC on BTN Plus. The Scarlet Knights then travel to No. 19 Nebraska for a Big Ten Conference Dual on Sunday, Dec. 21, in Lincoln. That match will start at 2 p.m. ET.
