Meet the Freshmen: Cliff Omoruyi

Highly-touted freshman Cliff Omoruyi's debut as a Scarlet Knight is eagerly anticipated. His commitment to the Scarlet Knights in April fired up the fan base over 20 other offers. The consensus four-star prospect, universally lauded as a top-50 prospect in the nation, became the first consensus top-50 high school prospect to commit to Rutgers since Kadeem Jack in 2010 and the first from New Jersey since Mike Rosario in 2007. He starred for Roselle Catholic, just a 15 mile drive from the RAC, averaging 14.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.4 blocks as a senior.

Cliff's massive presence has been felt immediately On the Banks, with teammates remarking at his combination of athletic gifts, including maintaining elite speed for a player his size (6-11, 240). The Athletic noted him as one to watch this season, naming him to their list of Most Intriguing College Basketball Players for the 2020-21 season. With his skill set and talent, his time as a Scarlet Knight will no doubt be exciting.

Cliff is a hard worker. He's physically gifted. He finishes above the rim. He runs, he rebounds. He's ready to block shots at the college level. He's been a wonderful addition to our program.

I chose Rutgers because it was the best fit for me. Academically, basketball, pretty much everything. I've been here since June and it's been fun so far, the team chemistry is really great.
