Women's Lacrosse Loses to No. 22 USC

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (8-7, 2-4) lost to No. 22 USC (9-5, 2-4), 13-4, on Thursday night at SHI Stadium. Up just 7-4 in the third quarter, the Trojans used a 6-0 scoring run in the final 15 minutes to secure their road win in Piscataway.

Senior Michelle Warren enjoyed a career game with two points on a goal and assist to go along with five draw controls. Redshirt freshman Samantha Swanovich added two goals, while rookie Caroline Ling tallied two points on a goal and a helper. Senior Victoria Goldrick and Sophomore Payton Tini each dished out an assist.

Graduate student Lexie Coldiron earned 12 saves on 34 shots faced, also causing two turnovers. Senior Emalie Clothier muscled two turnovers, junior Katie Buck secured two draw controls and rookie Bianca Chiarella scooped up a team-high three ground balls.

In a low-scoring first half, USC netted the first two goals before Ling found Swanovich to get RU on the board with 5:05 left in the opening quarter. Rutgers drew even in the following quarter thanks to Ling, who finished a pass from Goldirck at the 4:37 mark in the second. The Trojans tacked on a goal late for a 3-2 lead at halftime.

The Scarlet Knights continued to fight out of the break, as Warren converted a highlight-reel goal to make it 3-4 Trojans two minutes out of the locker room. However, USC closed the quarter on a 3-1 scoring run, and followed with six consecutive goals in the fourth for the victory.
