Detering, who was elevated to associate head coach in 2024 and works with RU's setters, begins her fourth season "On The Banks" this fall as the Scarlet Knights continue to make strides in the toughest volleyball conference in the nation.Â
Last season, Scarlet Knight setters directed the attack to crack the top 10 all-time in career kills, the second most rally-era career kills and the third most rally-era career kills per set.  In 2023, Rutgers captured the most wins and best nonconference record since 2012 and improved its set win total by 45 percent from the previous season. Altogether the Scarlet Knights placed 12 entries into the rally-era individual season top 10 records and 13 entries into the rally-era team top 10 records. Detering-led setters captured the most assists and assists per set since 2018 helping to set up for the most kills for the program since 2012 and helping the Scarlet Knights earn their first All-Big Ten honoree on the attack. Additionally, RU registered the most assists, assists per set and total kills in Big Ten play since joining the league back in 2014.  In her first season at Rutgers in 2022, the team had its best start since 1998 and four Scarlet Knights were named to All-Tournament squads. By the season's end, RU made 11 entries on the rally-era season leaders list.Â
Prior to arriving at Rutgers, Detering served as an assistant coach at Kent State where she helped develop a two-time All-MAC performer and the second setter in program history to attain 1,000 career digs. Tthe Golden Flash also led the Mid-American Conference in hitting percentage and ranked second in kills per set.Â
Detering brought a Big Ten pedigree with her to the coaching ranks as an AVCA All-American standout at Penn State where she totaled 12 NCAA Tournament victories during her career under the guidance of legendary coaches Russ Rose and Mary Wise. Â During her career at Penn State, Detering saw time at setter and right side, totaling 1,793 assists and 254 kills in two seasons. She earned AVCA All-America honorable mention recognition as a senior while helping the Nittany Lions post a 33-2 record and an appearance in the national semifinals.Â
Following her graduation from Penn State in December of 2017 with a degree in communication arts and sciences, Detering turned pro in signing a professional contract to play with SG Kelag Klagenfurt of the Austrian A1 League. She also played for Pays d'Aix Venelles.
