2019-2020 Track & Field and Cross Country Team Awards

The Rutgers men's and women's cross country and track & field teams announced the annual awards for the 2019-20 season. 

MOST VALUABLE - CROSS COUNTRY

Patrick Walsh Award
• Named All-East after leading the team with a Top 20 finish at the IC4A Championships • Added personal bests in the 8k (24:42.0) and 10k (31:31.9) in 2019 • Clocked his fastest time ever at a Big Ten Cross Country Championships in 2019 (25:25.5)
Stephanie Mauer Award
• Consistent scorer, finishing in the top three of the Scarlet Knights’ six races in 2019 • Placed seventh overall at the Metropolitan Championships with personal-best 5k time (18:58.9) to help guide Rutgers to a team win • Ran personal best in the 6k (22:06.8) at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional • Led all Rutgers runners at the Princeton Invitational

MOST IMPROVED - CROSS COUNTRY

Patrick Walsh Award
• Named All-East after leading the team with a Top 20 finish at the IC4A Championships • Added personal bests in the 8k (24:42.0) and 10k (31:31.9) in 2019 • Clocked his fastest time ever at a Big Ten Cross Country Championships in 2019 (25:25.5)
Kayla Rosario Award
• Ran a 6k personal best (22:23.0) at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional • Set a personal best in the 6K on four occasions during the season, finishing the year with her fastest time • Scored points for the Scarlet Knights at the Big Ten Championships

MOST OUTSTANDING NEWCOMER - CROSS COUNTRY

TJ Hillyer Award
• Clocked strong times of 32:47.3 in the 10K, 26:15.8 in the 8K, 19:46.8 in the 6K, and 28:03.4 in the mile. • Registered an 8K time of 27:19.1 in his Big Ten Cross Country Championships debut • Raced at the 2019 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with his best 10K time of the season at 32:47.3
Isabella Godish Award
• Placed 22nd overall with a personal best 5k time (19:57.3) as Rutgers won the Metropolitan Championship • Ran a 6k personal best (23:39.2) at the Big Ten Championships

MOST VALUABLE - TRACK

Taj Burgess Award
• Registered the fastest time worldwide in the 500m at 1:00.73, marking the second-fastest NCAA result all-time and a Rutgers school record • Named an All-American in the 400m • NCAA Championships qualifier in the 400m, becoming the third Scarlet Knight in history to qualify in the event and first since 2016-17 • Registered a podium finish in the 400m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, clocking a time of 46.44 • Claimed the 2020 Metropolitan Indoor Championship titles in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m
Reanda Richards Award
• Won the 500m at the 2020 Metropolitan Championships and TCNJ Lions Invitational • Placed second in the 500m at the ECAC Indoor Championships, setting the school record with a time of 1:11.73 • 500m time ranked ninth overall among competitors in indoor races in 2020 • Finished second in the 400m at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a time of 55.09

MOST VALUABLE - FIELD

Perry Christie Award
• Named an All-American in the high jump • NCAA Championships qualifier in the high jump, becoming the second Scarlet Knight in history to qualify in the event and first since 1974-75 • Claimed bronze in the high jump at the Big Ten Indoor Championships • Set the school record in the high jump by clearing a height of 2.23m (7’ 3.75”), topping a mark of 2.19m (7’ 2.25”) set in 2009 • Captured the high jump title at 2020 Metropolitan Indoor Championships • Finished first in the high jump at four meets and in the top four at all six meets of the season
Courteney Campbell Award
• Named an All-American in the high jump • NCAA Championships qualifier in the high jump, becoming the first to do so in women’s program history • Set the school record in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.80m (5’ 10.75”) at the Vanderbilt Invitational • Recorded a podium finish at the Big Ten Championships, taking sixth with a mark of 1.73m (5’8”) • Won the 2020 Metropolitan Championship title in the high jump

MOST IMPROVED - TRACK

Eric Barnes Award
• Contributed the second fastest 4x800m relay worldwide with a time of 7:31.12 • Runner up with the 4x800m relay team at the IC4A Indoor Championships (7:31.12) • Claimed the 2020 Metropolitan Indoor Championships titles in the 800m and Distance Medley Relay • Set a PR of 1:52.67 in the 800m
Olympia Martin Award
• Ran the top times for Rutgers in the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m in the 2020 indoor season • Won the 5,000m and distance medley relay at the 2020 Metropolitan Championships • Placed fifth in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:51.95 at the Meyo Invitational
BIlly Hill Award
• Contributed the second fastest 4x800m relay worldwide with a time of 7:31.12 • Runner up with the 4x800m relay team at the IC4A Indoor Championships (7:31.12) • Claimed the 2020 Metropolitan Indoor Championships titles in the mile and Distance Medley Relay • Set of PR of 4:07.76 in the mile, seconds off the school record time of 4:05.9 set in 1973

MOST IMPROVED - FIELD

Jasmine Van Note Award
• Posted a third-place showing in the shot put at the ECAC Championships with a personal-best throw of 14.58m (47’ 10”) • Recorded third-place finishes at the John Thomas Terrier Classic and 2020 Metropolitan Championships, improving on each progressive throw
Jacqueline Simmons Award
• Recorded a personal best in the long jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a distance of 5.97m (19’ 7”) • Won the long jump at the season-opening TCNJ Lions Invitational • Finished second in the long jump at the John Thomas Terrier Classic

• Captured the long jump title at the IC4A Indoor Championships with a PR of 7.33m (24’ 0.75”) • Runner up in the long jump at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships • Pushed his long jump PR from 7.16m (23’ 6”) to 7.33m (24’ 0.75”) in 2019

MOST OUTSTANDING NEWCOMER - TRACK & FIELD

Nadale Buntin Award
• Led the team with a season-high of 15.15m in the triple jump • Earned a podium spot at the 2020 Big Ten Indoor Championships, finishing fifth in the triple jump with a result of 15.11m • Claimed the 400m title at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships with a time of 48.37 • Contributed to the 4x400m title at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships
Claudine Smith Award
• Finished fourth and set school record in the triple jump with a distance of 12.68m (41’ 7.25”) at the Vanderbilt Invitational • Placed sixth to earn a podium finish in the triple jump at the Big Ten Championships with a distance of 12.17m (39’ 11.25”) • Placed second in the 60m hurdles at the 2020 Metropolitan Championships • Won triple jump in first collegiate meet at the TCNJ Lions Invitational
