PISCATAWAY, N.J. – In 2013, the Rutgers baseball program started a relationship with the Vs. Cancer Foundation. The Vs. Cancer Foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to raise money for pediatric cancer research. This organization was founded by college athletes and uses college sports, particularly baseball, to help raise money to save kids' lives.
Â
"I am proud of the way the guys are taking the initiative and putting in the effort to support such a great organization," head coach
Joe Litterio said. "It is great to be a part of this again to continue the relationship with Vs. Cancer."
Â
This season, the Scarlet Knights will participate in a competition between pitchers and position players to raise money towards the cause. The campaign will culminate on May 6, a Sunday game at Bainton Field against Michigan. The program has raised over $40,000 since 2013.
Â
The money raised will support children's cancer research and children receiving cancer treatment at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital (BMSCH) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) in New Brunswick. Every dollar will go directly to support and to find a cure for this terrible disease. Half of the money will go to the Vs. Cancer Foundation to fund research for better medicines and treatments. The other half will go to BMSCH.
