Sports Health


The Rutgers University Sports Health Team exists to provide the student-athletes of Rutgers University with high quality, comprehensive health care. The Rutgers University Sports Health Staff consists of an experienced team of Certified Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists that work under the direction of our Chief Medical Officer and team physicians to coordinate and provide medical care to all student-athletes. The athletic trainers and physical therapists are involved in all aspects that affect student-athlete health, safety, and well-being. They are able to effectively accomplish this through their communication and cooperation with the Chief Medical Officer, team physicians, sport psychologists, coaches, sports performance staff, nutrition staff, and other medical personnel and consultants.

Position Overview
This begins as an unpaid entry-level position providing practical experience in sports medicine. After one (1) semester, this position has the opportunity to become a paid position. Athletic training aides are employed to assist the full-time staff in daily operations of the athletic training room, practices, and games. This position must be able to commit to 15-20 hours per week.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Logging injury treatments into an injury tracking database
- Facility maintenance and various organizational tasks
- Practice and game preparation, coverage
- Potential team travel opportunities
Athletic Training Aides are student volunteers that observe, learn, and assist the certified athletic trainers in the care and rehabilitation of varsity student-athletes. This clinical experience is valuable for students wishing to pursue careers in healthcare fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant and orthopedic medicine. Students who work in the athletic training room will observe first hand the operation of a sports medicine facility. They will be exposed to numerous sports medicine concepts, which will prepare them for application to a variety of heath care professional programs such as an accredited athletic training entry-level masters program, PT school, OT school, or medical school.
