Rutgers Legacy Sports
Rutgers was among the first American institutions to engage in intercollegiate athletic competition, beginning with a baseball game in 1866. Since then, tens of thousands have worn an iconic "R" on a uniform representing The State University of New Jersey. This space on ScarletKnights.com is a continually expanding archive of Scarlet Knight athletics not currently sponsored at the varsity level "On the Banks."
"The Legacy Sports page is a tremendous opportunity for us to highlight the great history, traditions and achievements of our Scarlet Knights of the past. This project has been incredibly important to me since arriving at Rutgers and I'm glad to see it come to fruition. I hope all our letterwinners embrace and welcome the chance to take a trip down memory lane. Once a Scarlet Knight, always a Scarlet Knight." -
Pat Hobbs, Director of Athletics
Rutgers' Office of Athletic Communications, in conjunction with University Special Collections, has compiled a digital archive of each athletics section published through the years in Rutgers' yearbook, The Scarlet Letter. Additional yearbooks, historical data, photos, records and related information missing from any of the Legacy Sports archives can be sent to
athleticcommunications@scarletknights.com for inclusion in this Rutgers' Legacy Sports initiative.
