
Jacob Young Signs with Men's Basketball

PISCATAWAY – Head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Pikiell announced today that Jacob Young has signed to compete at Rutgers University. A transfer from the University of Texas, Young joins the Scarlet Knights with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"We're very excited to have Jacob Young joining Rutgers Nation," Pikiell said. "He's an exciting guard who can really score in a variety of ways. He really knows how to play with toughness and an ability to defend. He's got NCAA Tournament experience. He comes from an unbelievable family. We're excited to add a player of his pedigree to our roster."

Prior to Rutgers: Played in 63 games over two seasons at the University of Texas … will sit out the 2018-19 season under NCAA transfer guidelines.
2017-18 (Texas): Played in 30 games (five starts), averaging 16.8 minutes per contest … averaged 6.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game … had 22 assists and 20 steals … shot 41.3 percent overall, 32.3 percent from three-point distance and 68.2 percent from the free throw line … posted career-high 29 points against Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament … scored eight points in career-high 40 minutes of action in the NCAA Tournament against Nevada … had six double digit games, including three in his last six games of the season … averaged 13.3 points over the last six games.
2016-17 (Texas): Played in 33 games (five starts), averaging 16.4 minutes per contest … averaged 3.7 points, shooting 28.7 percent from the field and collecting 30 rebounds, 28 assists and eight steals … had 14 points against Texas Tech and 11 points versus Alabama.
High School: Played at Yates High School in Texas … ranked as the No. 87 overall prospect in the nation by Scout and No. 106 by Rivals following his senior year … two-time Class 5A all-state selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) … led Yates to the third round of the Class 5A state playoffs as a senior … paced Yates to an 18-9 mark and a trip to the regional semifinals of the state tourney in his junior season … as a sophomore, he led the team to a 24-7 mark and a trip to the Class 4A state championship game.
Personal: Son of Michael and Tina Young … father played basketball at the University of Houston (1980-84) and was part of the school's legendary "Phi Slama Jama" teams … Michael still ranks third in career scoring in University of Houston history and is one of five players to have his jersey retired by the school … has two older brothers, Michael Jr. and Joe, one older sister, Mayorca, and one younger sister, Milan… Joe played at the University of Houston (2011-13) and the University of Oregon (2013-15) and is with the NBA's Indiana Pacers.
