PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers senior wide receiver Aaron Martin (Ringwood, NJ) has signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
" I'm very excited to have this opportunity. They called me during the draft to tell me that they were interested in me,” said Martin. “I feel really excited and really blessed. Once you’re able to get your foot in the door, everything else is up to you. All you need is the opportunity.”
Martin said that he will attend the Cowboys’ mini-camp this weekend, arriving Thursday morning, through Sunday. Martin is the fifth member of the Rutgers senior class to receive an opportunity to extend his playing career in the NFL. Tight end L.J. Smith was a second round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles in last weekend’s NFL Draft, while linebacker Gary Brackett (Indianapolis Colts) and offensive lineman Trohn Carswell (Carolina Panthers) both signed free agent contracts. In addition, punter Mike Barr received an invitation to the Washington Redskins’ mini-camp this weekend.
Martin displayed continual improvement throughout his Rutgers career. He finished his career with 76 receptions in four seasons, including 30 catches for 284 yards as a senior. Martin caught three passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns in the Scarlet Knights’ 23-16 win over Navy in his junior year with two of those grabs going for touchdowns of 80 and 91 yards.
