Segond, Allen Earn All-America Honors

SACRAMENTO, CA - Seniors Sam Segond (East Stroudsburg, PA) and Marquis Allen (Mays Landing, NJ) earned All-America status at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, CA.
Segond, a two-time All-American in the discus, secured his third award with a stellar outing in the championship round of the men's discus competition on Saturday, June 11. Segond, the 2005 Mondo Mid-Atlantic Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year, posted a mark of 188'5' to finish in sixth place.
Segond was named the 2005 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer after an awe-inspiring performance, in which he established two meet and school records in both the discus (199' 2' ) and shot put (61' 8????' ). He captured his fourth BIG EAST title in the discus and first in the shot put.
Allen, who was the 2005 BIG EAST and IC4A Outdoor Champion in the long jump, finished among the top eight American citizens in the competition to earn his first-ever First Team All-America honors. Allen registered a mark of 23' 8' to take 12th place in the finals of the long jump on Thursday, June 9.
Segond and Allen helped the men's team to its most successful outdoor season in program history, as the Scarlet Knights were crowned 2005 BIG EAST and IC4A Outdoor Champions.
Segond, along with women's track standout senior Shameka Marshall (Mispah), will next compete at the 2005 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, June 23 through Sunday, June 26, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
