Athletics To Join In Inaugural "Rutgers Day" Festivities

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will take part in the first-ever Rutgers Day, this Saturday, April 25 on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses. The event, which will run from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., is an opportunity for people of all ages to explore Rutgers with nearly 400 free performances, tours, exhibits, hands-on activities, lectures, demonstrations and more scheduled during the day.
Rutgers Athletics will play a major role in the event with current and former representatives from several athletic programs taking part in the interactive day on the four campuses.
The Athletics "Equipment Petting Zoo" will be located at the College Avenue Gymnasium on the College Avenue Campus throughout the day, where a wide variety of equipment used by members of the Scarlet Knights 24 intercollegiate sports programs will be on display
Current and past Rutgers football standouts will be on hand to sign autographs in front of the College Avenue Gym, including St. Louis Rams running back Brian Leonard (signing from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) and New York Giants offensive lineman Mike Fladell (signing from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.). Another former Scarlet Knight All-American and long-time NFL veteran, standout tight end Marco Battaglia, will participate in the autograph session from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Current members of the team will also participate in the autograph session at specified times during the day, including quarterback Dom Natale and running back Joe Martinek. University Archivist Tom Frusciano, the author of the "Rutgers University Football Vault: The History of the Scarlet Knights" and Mike Pellowski, the former Rutgers football standout and author of "Rutgers Football, A Gridiron Tradition in Scarlet," will be signing copies of their respective books in front of the College Avenue Gymnasium.
Members of the Scarlet Knights men's and women's basketball programs will also be on hand at the College Avenue Gymnasium to greet visitors, pose for pictures and sign autographs. Members of the women's basketball program will appear from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., while members of the men's basketball program will appear from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Student-athletes from a variety of sports, including the football, wrestling, gymnastics, men's and women's soccer, softball, women's golf and women's lacrosse teams, will take part in the "Have a Field Day" event on the recreation fields across from the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on Busch Campus from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visitors can interact and get their pictures taken with student-athletes from a number of programs.
The Rutgers Pep Band and Cheerleading and Dance Teams, and the well-known Scarlet Knight mascot, will be on campus throughout the day to enhance the day's activities.
