New Jersey Sports Writers Honor Pernetti, Britt

EDISON, N.J. (January 30, 2009) – Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Pernetti was honored as the College Sports Good Guy of the Year and former Rutgers football standout Kenny Britt was recognized as the Tennessee Titans Rookie of the Year at the 74th annual New Jersey Sports Writers Association Banquet held at the Pines Manor in Edison, N.J. Sunday afternoon.
A former student-athlete in football at Rutgers, Pernetti returned to his alma matter on February 26, 2009, becoming one of the nation’s youngest leaders in college athletics. Pernetti, a resident of Oakland, N.J., oversees a department of 212 employees and 24 men’s and women’s intercollegiate teams.
After a stellar three-year football career at Rutgers, Britt became a first-round draft selection of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans in 2009. He continued his success at the professional level with 701 yards on 42 receptions and three touchdowns in his rookie season in the NFL this past fall. At Rutgers, Britt became the school’s all-time receiving yardage leader with 3,043 yards on 178 career receptions and 17 career touchdowns. The Bayonne, N.J. native was a two-time All-BIG EAST selection, earning first team honors as a junior in 2008. Britt was also named an Associated Press Third Team All-American his junior season.
