Rutgers Announces 2010 Football Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 10, 2010) – The BIG EAST Conference and Rutgers University announced the 2010 football schedule Wednesday. The Scarlet Knights play seven home games next season and have four games already set to be televised on ESPN or ABC.
Rutgers opens the season Thursday, September 2 vs. Norfolk State at Rutgers Stadium. The Scarlet Knights go on the road in week two of the season for their first visit to Florida International on Saturday, September 11.
After an off week, Rutgers returns to New Jersey to begin a four-game home stand. Rutgers hosts ACC-foe North Carolina on Saturday, September 25 at Rutgers Stadium and follows with a home date against Tulane on Saturday, October 2.
BIG EAST play begins on a Friday night under the lights as ESPN’s cameras come to Piscataway as the Scarlet Knights host Connecticut on Friday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m.
The first major college football game at the New Meadowlands Stadium featuring two Football Bowl Subdivision teams is set for Saturday, October 16 as the Scarlet Knights host Army. The Scarlet Knights last played at the Meadowlands on Oct. 12, 1996 vs. Army. Rutgers and Army have met nine times in East Rutherford, the most games vs. any opponent for the Scarlet Knights.
Two consecutive road trips in BIG EAST play are on the schedule following the Army game. Rutgers visits Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 23 and USF on Wednesday, November 3. ESPN2 will televise the Wednesday night game vs. the Bulls in Tampa at 7 p.m.
Rutgers returns home to face Syracuse on Saturday, November 13 before traveling to Cincinnati to play the Bearcats on Saturday, November 20.
The Scarlet Knights close out their home portion of the 2010 schedule vs. Louisville on Friday, November 26. ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC will televise the contest.
Rutgers finishes the regular season for the third time in five years vs. West Virginia on Saturday, December 4 in Morgantown. ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC has the broadcast rights for the matchup between the Scarlet Knights and Mountaineers.
