Rutgers Announces 2011 Football Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 25, 2011) – The BIG EAST Conference and Rutgers University announced the 2011 football schedule Friday. The Scarlet Knights’ home slate features seven games, including six on Saturdays.
The schedule features 10 games for the Scarlet Knights in the tri-state area and 10 contests played versus opponents who appeared in a bowl game last season.
The 2011 college football season begins for Rutgers on Thursday, September 1 versus North Carolina Central. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Rutgers Stadium.
For the fourth time in six seasons, Rutgers faces ACC-foe North Carolina Saturday, September 10 in Chapel Hill.
After a bye week on September 17, Ohio visits Rutgers Stadium for the first time since 2006 on Saturday, September 24.
BIG EAST play begins Saturday, October 1 as the Scarlet Knights travel to Syracuse to face the Orange in the Carrier Dome.
A two-game homestand follows, including Rutgers’ BIG EAST home opener vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday, October 8 and a visit from Navy on Saturday, October 15.
Following the Navy contest, Rutgers heads to Louisville for a Friday ESPN matchup against the Cardinals on October 21.
Another two home games vs. BIG EAST competition – West Virginia on Saturday, October 29 and USF on Saturday, November 5 – are next on the docket for the Scarlet Knights.
For the first time since 1948, Rutgers will play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on Saturday, November 12 as Army hosts the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers played NYU at the old Yankee Stadium eight times, from 1927 to 1948. CBS College Sports will televise the game at either 12 noon or 3:30 p.m.
The final home game of the 2011 season will be against Cincinnati on Saturday, November 19. Rutgers closes out the 2011 regular season Saturday, November 26 against Connecticut.
