DES MOINES, IA. (June 21, 2013) - Rutgers' James Plummer (South Toms River, N.J.) took third place in the discus at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a personal-best 61.96m (203'3") to qualify as a member of Team USA.
Plummer, a First Team All-American and the BIG EAST Champion in the event, set a new lifetime best by a little over two feet. The top collegiate finisher in the event at the national outdoor championships, Plummer joins Olympian Lance Brooks, as well as Russ Winger, as the members of Team USA in the discus and remains in the hunt to earn a spot to the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia later this month.
Brooks won his second consecutive national title 62.29m (204'4") and Winger finished second in 62.03m (203'6"), while RU's Plummer was third at 61.96m (203'3"). While none of the men have met the IAAF B standard, they still have the opportunity to chase until July 20.
