
Men's Indoor Track & Field Takes Second at Metropolitan Championships

BRONX, N.Y. (January 31, 2014) - The Rutgers men's indoor track and field team finished in second place at the 2014 Metropolitan Championships on Friday, including 200m and 400m titles by junior D'Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) along with the winning 4x800 relay team. Jordan repeated as the 400m champion and improved one spot from last season to take home the 200m title capturing personal bests in both events.
Rutgers went one-two in the 200m with Jordan's IC4A qualifying mark and personal best of 22.08. Jordan beat out teammate sophomore Rajee Dunbar (Arlington, Va.) by .20 seconds. Jordan also had a personal best and IC4A qualifying time in taking home the 400m title for the second straight year logging a time of 48.39.
The 4x800 relay team, which included senior Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.), sophomore Calvin Knox (Oakland, N.J.), junior Chris DeFabio (Millington, N.J.) and senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.), gave the Scarlet Knights their third title of the championships with the winning time of 7:51.84. The time was also an IC4A qualifying mark.
In addition to his 200m and 400m titles, Jordan joined teammates senior Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.), Dunbar and sophomore Kyle Holder (Randolph, N.J.) in capturing second in the 4x400 relay. The RU relay team put together an IC4A qualifying time of 3:15.58.
RU also had an IC4A qualifying time in the 500m by Corey Caidenhead (Bergenfield, N.J.). Caidenhead finished second in the event, logging a time of 1:04.20.
Other notable results included senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) taking third in the mile (4:22.26), Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.), collecting fourth in the 1000m (2:30.93) and senior Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) coming in fourth in the 5000m (15:23.52).
Additionally, freshman Brennan Crowle (Endwell, N.Y.) took second place in the heptathlon registering 4649 points.
In the field events, Rutgers had top three placements in the high jump and pole vault. Freshmen Nicholas Eckett (Jackson, N.J.) and Sean McEvoy (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished in second and third respectively as they both cleared a height of 4.65m in the pole vault. Sophomore Ryan North (Mayetta, N.J.), meanwhile, took third in the high jump clearing 1.99m.
The Rutgers men's indoor track and field squad returns to action at the Rider/Lafayette Invitational on Friday, Feb. 14.
