ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Rutgers men’s golf team placed 10th with an 885 (304-298-283) total at the season-opening Wolverine Intercollegiate, played Saturday and Sunday at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
Junior Jonathan Chang (Valencia, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights in the 11-team tournament with a one-over-par 214 (73-70-71). He finished tied for 12th in the 66-player field and was minus one in par four scoring with 10 birdies.
Junior Louis Bodine (Flemington, N.J.) is a big reason why Rutgers shot 15 strokes lower on Sunday than they did in the second round. Bodine carded a team-low round of 69 to finish with a 220 (75-76-69) and tie for 33rd. He had 36 pars overall.
The rest of Rutgers’ card consisted of senior Jacob Stockl (Clark, N.J.), sophomore Ryan Rose (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) and freshman Toks Pedro (Lagos, Nigeria). Stockl shot a 224 (77-73-74) to tie for 52nd, Rose recorded a 229 (79-79-71) to tie for 61st, and Pedro scored a 231 (79-80-72) to place 63rd. Stockl also registered 36 pars.
Sophomore Michael Howe (Temecula, Calif.) competed as an individual and carded a 238 (77-83-78) to finish in 64th place. He was minus two overall in par five scoring.
Host Michigan won the tournament with a seven-under 845 (278-280-287), besting second place Penn State by 10 strokes.
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of third-year head coach Rob Shutte, return to competition when they host the Rutgers Invitational, September 19 and 20, at the Rutgers Golf Course in Piscataway.
