PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers head men's golf coach Rob Shutte today announced the signing of Adam Gray (Potomac, Md.) to a national letter of intent. Gray will compete for the Scarlet Knights beginning in the fall of 2016.
"We are excited to welcome Adam to ‘R' family here at Rutgers," Shutte said. "Adam brings all of the values we are looking for as we continue to build a team that can win in the Big Ten Conference. He is a bright student-athlete who brings proven athletic success and a high energy motor that is essential to be successful during his college years. We look forward to helping Adam achieve his goals in the classroom and on the course here ‘On the Banks.'"
Gray's success on the course is well documented, as the promising athlete led Churchill high school to its second straight 3A/4A team state championship Nov. 2. Gray's two-day score of three-under-par 139 golf paced Churchill to the title, and his putt for par during a two-hole playoff secured Gray the individual title. Churchill bested the previous state record by 24 strokes during the championship performance.
Gray also paced Churchill to a 10-stroke victory during districts this season with a tournament-low score three-under-par 68, and captured the Montgomery County individual title for the Bulldogs.
Gray has competed in a number of tournaments during his high school career, which include a 10th-place finish at the AJGA Junior at the Foundry, a 12th-place mark at the AJGA Junior at Tablot and a 15th-place performance at the AJGA Junior Open.
The Scarlet Knights finished the fall season with appearance in five tournaments, including a second-place finish at the Rutgers Invitational Sept. 11-12 in Piscataway. RU begins the spring season Feb. 12, when it competes in Big Ten Match Play in Palm Coast, Fla.
