MGLF Has Solid Showing in B1G Match Play

PALM COAST, Fla. - Rutgers men's golf had a solid showing at the 2015 Big Ten Match Play Championship, played Sunday and Monday at Hammock Beach Resort, earning a victory over Nebraska and drawing with No. 6 seed Penn State. Senior Jacob Stockl captured two victories and a half for RU in its initial event of the spring season.
After a 1-1 showing on Sunday, the Scarlet Knights returned to action Monday morning versus the rival Nittany Lions and battled to a 2-2-1 draw. Stockl won 3&2 over Jens Talbert and freshman Toks Pedro captured a 4&2 victory against J.D. Dornes. Junior Louis Bodine had his match halved versus Cody Cox.
In afternoon action on Monday, RU dropped a 3-0-2 decision to No. 9 seed Michigan State. Stockl and sophomore Michael Howe earned halves to put the Scarlet Knights on the scoreboard.
The highlight of the Championship occurred on Sunday afternoon, when Pedro sank a putt on the 18th hole to help Rutgers to a 3-2 win over the Cornhuskers. In addition to Pedro's exciting, 1-Up victory over Nebraska's Josh Reinertson, sophomore Chase Wheatley and Bodine also captured wins. Wheatley won 3&2 over Aaron Wong, while Bodine won 6&5 over Husker Justin Jennings.
Rutgers opened the event with a hard-fought, 3-2 loss to No. 3 seed Maryland on Sunday morning at the Conservatory Course. Bodine and Stockl earned victories for the No. 13-seeded Scarlet Knights. Bodine downed Connor Tendall 1-Up, while Stockl defeated Victor Fox 3&1.
Sophomore Ryan Rose also competed for Rutgers in the two day event that featured all 14 Big Ten programs.
Top seeded Illinois won the Championship, downing No. 7 seed Michigan 3-2-0 in the title match on Monday afternoon. For complete results of the Championship, click here.
