MGLF Finishes Strong at Towson Invite

GRASONVILLE, Md. -- Rutgers men's golf placed eighth with a 633 (326-307) total at the 23-team Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at Prospect Bay Country Club. Junior Louis Bodine paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 153 (77-76) to tie for 17th in the 118-player event.
The Scarlet Knights improved 19 strokes from day one to day two and vaulted five positions in the final standings. All five RU competitors carded lower scored on Sunday on the 6,530-yard, par 71 course.
Saturday was especially difficult, with cold and windy conditions hampering scores. Sunday remained challenging, but winds diminished.
Sophomore Michael Howe and freshman Matt Holuta performed well and placed among the top 50. Howe shot 159 (83-76) to finish tied for 38th, while Holuta carded a 160 (81-79) to place tied for 43rd.
Sophomore Ryan Rose and freshman Toks Pedro comprised the remainder of the Rutgers scorecard. Rose tied for 85th52nd with a 161 (85-76) and Pedro tied for 83rd with a 166 (86-80).
Arkansas carded a 287 on Sunday to take home the team title with a 589. The nationally-ranked Razorbacks leaped day one leader William & Mary (300-305=605) early in the round and cruised to a 16-stroke victory. Seton Hall (613), Robert Morris (614) and Hofstra (622) rounded out the top five.
Seton Hall's Lloyd Jefferson Go captured individual medalist honors with a one-over 143 (73-70).
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Rob Shutte, returns to the links at the Redhawk Invitational, April 6-7, in University Place, Washington.
