PISCATAWAY, N.J. – USA Wrestling has announced that Rutgers will host one of two Final X events next summer. Final X: Rutgers will take place at the RAC on Saturday, June 8 and will have exclusive live and on-demand coverage on FloWrestling, as well as on the FloSports apps on iOS, Roku and Apple TV 4.
Information on ordering tickets for Final X: Rutgers will be made available at a later date.
Rutgers is one of two schools selected to host Final X events next summer, as Nebraska will also host at the Bobby Devaney Center on Saturday, June 15. This is the first time the Scarlet Knights were selected to host the prestigious qualifier in school history.
The RAC has become one of the premier wrestling venues in the sport. RU finished within the Top 5 in home attendance for the third consecutive season in 2017-18, as it averaged 5,070 fans for its six home duals at the arena. Including its 2017-18 opener against Maryland at HighPoint.com Stadium, 32,764 fans watched Rutgers wrestle in Piscataway, a program record. This season, the Scarlet Knights set a program mark with more than 3,000 season tickets sold.
The Final X series will determine the 2019 U.S. Senior World Teams in all three of the Olympic disciplines. This is a change from last year, with the addition of Greco-Roman wrestling to the event alongside men's and women's freestyle. Last year's Final X events were hosted by Lehigh, Nebraska and Penn State.
The top two wrestlers in each of the 30 World Championship weight classes will compete in a best-of-three series to determine who will wrestle at the 2019 Senior World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, September 14-22, 2019.
The complete World Team qualifying procedures for each style have not yet reached final approval within USA Wrestling. Therefore, information on the weight classes assigned to each Final X and the final event schedule at each Final X location will be announced at a later date.
