Mar 13 | Men's Golf
Jiang produces career-low 66, Pedro ties for 13th in Bluffton, South Carolina.
BLUFFTON, S.C. – Sophomore Tony Jiang carded a career-low 66 in the final round and senior co-captain Toks Pedro finished tied for 13th as Rutgers men's golf closed out action at the Colleton River Collegiate Tuesday afternoon in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Battling extreme wind conditions throughout play on Monday, the Scarlet Knights finished sixth with a 41-over-par 905 (296-319-290) in the 12-team field. Iowa State captured the team title with a 16-over-par 880, while Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio) rounded out the top three results.
The two-day tournament featured plenty of positives for RU, who held the co-lead after the first round on Monday before wind gusts forced delays and began to affect scores throughout the field. Yesterday's second round was halted due to darkness and resumed Tuesday morning.
Jiang finished his final round with a six-under-par 66, the lowest 18-hole total in the 74-player field throughout the entire tournament. Jiang registered an eagle on a par-five hole two, added a birdie on hole four and produced a birdie turkey on holes seven through nine. Jiang also collected birdies on holes 12 and 16 during his final round, which secured him a tied-for-25th finish.
Pedro also carded an impressive final round with his one-under-par 71 Tuesday afternoon. The veteran had birdies on holes two, five, 11, 12 and 14, and added nine pars to tie for 13th in the field.
Two other Scarlet Knights finished within the top-25 of competitors, as freshman Christopher Gotterup contributed a three-over-par 75 in round three, with birdies on holes 11, 12 and 16 to tie for 23rd.
Senior co-captain Matt Holuta tied for 25th, highlighted by his even 72 in the opening round, which was tied for fifth heading into the second round on Monday.
Rutgers will next compete from March 25-26 at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, North Carolina.

"I was definitely proud of the hot start we had yesterday and how our guys handled the adverse conditions," said head coach Rob Shutte. "I was happy with the way Tony and Toks finished, and our overall play here made clear the aspects of our game we need to work on. The wind we dealt with yesterday was some of the strongest you will see in college golf, but we need to learn to play in those conditions moving forward."Tournament Recap: @ToksPedro finishes T13th and Tony Jiang shoots career low 66 in final round! #knightup pic.twitter.com/phWmFgmbtN
