Rutgers Continues to Excel in NCAA Academic Progress Rate

PISCATAWAY - After a school-record eight Rutgers programs - baseball, gymnastics, tennis, volleyball, men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf and women's lacrosse – earned public recognition from the NCAA for their multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores last week, the good news continued with today's release of complete APR scores for all Division I institutions. The average multiyear APR rate for Rutgers athletic programs increased to 991, eight points above the NCAA average rate of 983, as seven programs earned perfect multi-year scores.
The eight programs recognized last week for scoring in the top 10 percent of their respective sport tied for third-most among all Big Ten Conference institutions.
Thirteen Rutgers programs either tied (baseball, 995; men's cross country, 1000; women's cross country, 1000; women's golf, 1000; women's golf, 1000; women's gymnastics, 1000; women's lacrosse, 1000; women's tennis; volleyball, 1000) or set (men's golf, 992; men's lacrosse, 992; wrestling, 985; swimming & diving, 997) program records for their multiyear APR rates.
Additionally, 19 of 22 programs posted multiyear APR scores of 980 or better, 14 had scores of 990 or above, and 10 programs had multiyear scores of 995 or better. Twenty-one programs posted multi-year scores at or above the national average respective to sport. All Rutgers University athletic programs are well above the 930 benchmark required by the NCAA.
Twelve Rutgers programs earned perfect single-year APR scores of 1000 for 2016-17.
The report is based on NCAA Division I APR data submitted by the institution for the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
