Freshman outside hitter started for Team Israel in the 2018 European League
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Sept. 5, 2018) – Rutgers volleyball added world-class depth to its outside hitting corps with the arrival of freshman Tali Marmen, announced by head coach CJ Werneke on Wednesday.
Marmen joins the roster fresh off a stint with the Israel National Team, on which she started at the outside hitter position. Standing at 6-foot-2, Marmen is known for explosive power on the attack and superb defensive abilities on the other side of the net. These traits have been documented playing for her country in the 2018 European Silver League and for her club, Maccabi XT Haifa, which won the 2017-18 Israeli National Championship.
"Tali is an elite athlete with proven experience at the highest levels of international volleyball," Werneke said. "Her skillset speaks for itself, and it's extremely valuable to add someone of this caliber to our roster. We're excited to get her working in our system and acclimated to the NCAA and Big Ten competition."
Marmen began practice with the team this week, and is awaiting a waiver from the NCAA to officially join the Scarlet Knights in competition.
Among Marmen's personal accolades are a ninth overall ranking in the 2018 European League with 2.79 kills per set, and a second overall ranking in perfect serve receive percentage. The Ariel, Israel native has also competed with the National Team at the European Championships since 2014 and at the 2018 FIVB World Championship European Qualification.
Marmen joins an outside hitter group at Rutgers that has three players above 2.0 kills per set through seven matches this season, with senior Sahbria McLetchie leading the crew at 3.28 and backed by freshmen Anastasiia Maksimova (2.35) and Anastasiya Kudryashova (2.11).
The Scarlet Knights host their 2018 home opener on Friday at 10:30 a.m. against Howard as part of the Rutgers Invitational at the College Ave. Gym. Rutgers hosts Tulane at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and Navy at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
