Men’s Golf Cards Top-Four Finish at Robert Kepler Intercollegiate

Gotterup secures second consecutive top-five result in Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rutgers men's golf produced its top showing of the spring season as it finished tied for fourth with a 582 (305-277) at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday in Columbus. Sophomore Christopher Gotterup (fourth), junior Tony Jiang (T/fifth) and sophomore Oliver Whatley (T/21) all came in at under par in the second round, helping the Scarlet Knights secure the lowest team scorecard during Saturday action.
Due to inclement weather on Friday, the tournament was condensed to two rounds. Host Ohio State captured the team title with a 573 (295-278), while Michigan State (294-283: 577) and Florida (304-277: 581) finished second and third, respectively. Buckeye Daniel Wetterich secured the individual title with a nine-under-par 133 (69-64).
After he carded an even scorecard in the first round on Friday, Gotterup (71-69: 140) stayed consistent with a two-under-par 69, which included four birdies and 12 pars. With his fourth-place result, Gotterup secured his second consecutive top-5 finish and the third of his collegiate career.
Jiang (75-68: 143) climbed nine spots to tie for fifth with his three-under-par 68 in round two, with Saturday's performance including four birdies and 13 pars during his final 18 holes. Whatley (80-67: 147) made an even bigger jump by climbing 29 positions with his four-under-par 67. The Maryland native had five birdies on Saturday to lead the team in that category.
Sophomore Bobby Weise (80-73: 153) and rookie Shayler Dance (79-74: 153) tied for 48th to round out the team scoring. Weise and Jiang led the team with 25 pars during the two rounds.
