Reanda Richards Named B1G Sportsmanship Honoree

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Track and Field freshman Reanda Richards was named the Rutgers recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

The Big Ten Conference office recognizes students from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.  These students are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the conference office will honor one male and one female from each institution at the end of the school year.

The second Scarlet Knight women's track and field student-athlete to capture a Big Ten title, Richards brought home the 400m hurdle crown on Sunday.

The Roseland, New Jersey product won her opening heat last Friday to automatically qualify for finals and placed second overall during preliminaries with a time of 58.53. Two days later she won gold, crossing the finish line in 57.68 with a .01 second margin of victory.

Richards is currently ninth in the country and third in the East Region in the event having logged a time of 57.21 at the Florida Relays back on March 28.
