
Three Individuals Appear in Preseason FloWrestling Rankings

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – FloWrestling has released its preseason rankings for the 2019-20 season, as three Rutgers wrestlers appear within the Top-25 of their respective weight classes. 174-pounder Joseph Grello (17th), heavyweight Christian Colucci (22nd) and 141-pounder Peter Lipari (24th) all earned preseason recognition by the publication.
Grello, a redshirt junior, will begin the season ranked for the first time in his collegiate career. The 2019 NCAA qualifier picked up two wins at the national tournament back in March and finished with 18 victories overall in 2018-19. Grello also produced an 11-5 dual record, a 5-3 mark in Big Ten dual action and finished third on the team last season with 43 dual points.
Also a first-time national qualifier in 2019, Lipari opened last season's national tournament with a victory after he earned an automatic spot in the field with his showing at the Big Ten Championships. The redshirt senior finished 2018-19 with 13 victories, which included five wins in dual action and four within the Big Ten.
Colucci was a full-time starter at heavyweight for the Scarlet Knights last season and finished with 15 victories in 2018-19. A Big Ten Championships participant, the redshirt senior collected eight dual victories last season, which included a major decisions to help RU clinch a 19-18 win over No. 20 Princeton at the RAC.
RU will host eight home events at the RAC in 2019-20, including the 2020 Big Ten Championships from March 7-8. In total, the Scarlet Knights face six teams that finished ranked in the final 2019 NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll, including four Top 10 opponents in No. 1 Penn State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 9 Cornell.
Under reigning Dan Gable and NCAA Tournament Coach of the Year Scott Goodale, Rutgers is coming off an historic 2018-19 campaign which was capped by the program's first individual NCAA titles from Anthony Ashnault and Nick Suriano, as well as its first Top-10 finish at the national tournament.
RU will begin the 2019-20 season with four wrestlers with NCAA Championships experience on its roster, including Grello, Lipari, Matthew Correnti and Jordan Pagano. The Scarlet Knights also feature an incoming 2019 freshman class ranked No. 4 in the country by FloWrestling. The group includes three 2019 NJSIAA state champions – Sammy Alvarez, JoJo Aragona, and Robert Kanniard – as well as highly-regarded prospects Gerard Angelo, Devon Britton, Richard Halal, Cody Harrison, Jackson Turley and Ryan Vulakh.
