Wrestling Pegged Preseason No. 11 by Win Magazine

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – As preseason rankings continue to drop, Rutgers wrestling was designated No. 11 in the latest 2020-21 preseason rankings by Win Magazine. It marks the highest team ranking for the Scarlet Knights heading into this season, as RU also appears No. 17 in FloWrestling's preseason poll and No. 22 in preseason rankings by The Open Mat.
Ten Big Ten Conference programs appear in Win Magazine's preseason Top 25, including No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 Michigan, No. 5 Nebraska, No. 7 Ohio State, No. 9 Penn State, No. 11 Rutgers, No. 12 Minnesota, No. 13 Northwestern, No. 20 Michigan State and No. 23 Purdue.
The Scarlet Knights produced another successful dual season last winter, as its 10-7 record in 2019-20 marked the 14th consecutive winning campaign for the RU and the 13th since head coach Scott Goodale took over the program in 2007. RU also finished ranked in the NWCA Coaches Poll for the ninth time under Goodale's leadership.
Four RU student-athletes appear in Win Magazine's individual rankings. Eligible to wrestle this season, Nick Suriano was pegged No. 1 at 133 pounds, followed by Sebastian Rivera (No. 4, 141), Joseph Grello (No. 16, 174) and Billy Janzer (No. 17, 197).
Rutgers produced five NCAA qualifiers last season, the sixth consecutive year the program had five or more qualifiers for the championships. Janzer, Nicolas Aguilar (125), Sammy Alvarez (133), Michael VanBrill (157) and Jordan Pagano (197) were all set to compete at the 2020 NCAA Championships in Minneapolis before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
