Men's Golf Cards Lowest Team Result of Fall at Quail Valley Collegiate

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Rutgers men's golf produced its lowest team scorecard of the fall to close out the Quail Valley Collegiate on Monday in Vero Beach, Florida. Junior Luke Wells (-6) and freshman Weston Jones (-3) came in under par to pace the Scarlet Knights at the Quail Valley Golf Club.
RU finished with a 10-under-par 854 (282-281-291) to place 10th in the 16-team field. Kansas captured the team title with its 35-under-par 829 (277-271-281), followed by Kent State (-28) and Michigan State (-23). Kent State's Chris Vandette earned individual honors with his 14-under-par 202 (66-69-67).
Rutgers combined for nine rounds of even or under-par golf, as Wells moved up two spots on the leaderboard to tie for 17th after he fired off a three-under-par 69 in the final round. Wells finished with a six-under-par 210 (69-72-69) and a team-high 13 birdies.
After his back-to-back 69s on Sunday, Jones tied for 28th with his three-under-par 213 (69-69-75). Jones, who was just four strokes off the lead after the first day, combined for a team-high 11 birdies between his two rounds on Sunday and rolled in four birdies during his first nine holes of the second round.
Sophomore Rhett Sellers finished with an even 216 (71-70-75) to tie for 41st, while junior Xavier Marcoux tied for 47th with a one-over-par 217 (73-70-74). Junior Brendan Hansen rounded out the team scorecard tied for 72nd (224 (77-74-73). Competing as an individual, rookie Cade Anderson fired of a two-under-par 70 in the opening round on Sunday and closed the tournament tied for 82nd (233: 70-76-87).
Rutgers closes the fall at the Steelwood Collegiate from Oct. 30-31 in Loxely, Alabama.
