
White Captures 2021 Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open Title

VESTAL, N.Y. – Competing unattached, Tony White (149) won an individual title at the 2021 Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open on Sunday in Vestal, New York. Eight members of the Rutgers wrestling program competed at the open, as Joseph Olivieri (133) also placed in his respective weight class.
White went a perfect 5-0 on Sunday, which included a 4-1 decision over Nick Lombard (Binghamton) in the 149-pound title match. White, who also finished third last weekend at the ESU Open, owns a 10-1 unattached record during the first two weeks of the season.
After an opening-round loss, Olivieri wrestled back to a fifth-place finish with five consecutive wins, as he defeated Ethan Fernandez (Spartan Combat RTC) in the fifth-place match by decision, 3-0. Notable victories during Olivieri's run included a 2-1 decision over No. 28 Anthony Sobtker (Binghamton) on the consolation side of the bracket. This season, Olivieri is 9-1 competing unattached after he captured an individual title at the ESU Open last weekend.
Dylan Weaver (157) opened the tournament with back-to-back wins, including a 9-4 decision over Aurellus Dunbar (Penn State), to advance to the championship quarterfinals before bowing out of the field with a 2-2 record.
