White’s Title Highlights Unattached Action at Shorty Hitchcock Memorial
Nov 21 | Wrestling
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Tony White (149) continued his hot start to the season with an unattached title at the 2021 Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Open on Saturday in Millersville, Pennsylvania. White earned his second consecutive unattached crown after he secured an individual title at the Bearcat Open last weekend.
John O'Donnell (HWT) and Andrew Clark (165) also placed in unattached action, as they finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
White went a perfect 5-0 on Saturday, which included a 3-1 decision over Brent Moore (Clarion) in the 149-pound title match. Tied 1-1 after regulation, White used a takedown in sudden victory to secure his win over Moore, the No. 1 seed at the tournament and an NCAA qualifier who has been ranked this season. White registered four wins by bonus (two tech falls and two major decisions) and outscored his opponents by a blistering 60-4 margin. Through three unattached tournaments, White is an impressive 15-1 with nine wins by bonus.
After a first-round bye, O'Donnell worked back-to-back victories to advance to the semifinals at heavyweight and finished fourth in the field. Clark advanced to the championship quarterfinals before he wrestled back for a sixth-place result.
