
Shealyn McNamara Named B1G Sportsmanship Honoree

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Redshirt senior middle blocker Shealyn McNamara was named the Rutgers recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, it was announced on Wednesday by the conference office.
McNamara appeared in 100 sets for Rutgers this fall averaging 1.73 kills and 1.18 blocks per set and was named to the Rutgers 9/11 Memorial and UConn Challenge All-Tournament Teams.
The Cumming, Georgia wrapped up her career with the Scarlet Knights ranking second in career blocks per set (1.04) and sixth in career solo blocks (23) among rally-era players.
McNamara's 118 total rejections in 2021 were the ninth most in a season all-time and second-most in a season of the rally era, only two blocks shy of tying the rally-era record. Additionally, her 18 solo blocks this past year were the second most of the rally era, while her 100 block assists were the ninth most by a Scarlet Knight in a season ever and third most of the rally era.
The fifth-year senior posted a career-high 11 blocks against Lafayette, the third most blocks by a Scarlet Knight in a match, in helping RU to the UConn Challenge title.
A standout in the classroom as well, McNamara will be receiving a master's degree in health administration.
