PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Athletics facilities and operations add two staff members to its department with Therno (pronounced cheir-no) Diallo and Shawn Schaefer joining the staff as assistant director of facilities and events.
"We are thrilled to add Therno and Shawn to our department," said Matt Colagiovanni, senior associate athletic director for facilities, events and operations. "They both bring unique and valuable experience to our area and are a great addition to our administrative staff."
Diallo previously worked as the assistant athletic director for events/marketing at DePauw University where he oversaw game operations, community relations, concessions operations, facilities and marketing for 23 varsity sports. He managed game day operations across seven athletic facilities in addition to identifying areas in need of maintenance or improvements within those venues.
Prior to his time at DePauw, Diallo served as the C.D Henry intern with the Big Ten Conference, working extensively with the league's football championship game and men's and women's basketball tournaments. He also served as the secondary sport liaison for men's tennis and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. Diallo worked as an athletic administrative intern at Francis Marion University and athletic operations intern at John Jay College before joining the Big Ten Conference.
Diallo earned his bachelor's degree in sport management at SUNY Cortland where he was a football student-athlete. He later completed a master's degree in sport administration at Canisius College.
Shaefer joins the Rutgers Athletics department following a two-year stint as assistant director of athletic operations at East Carolina University. Shaefer served as the primary event and facility administrator for volleyball and women's lacrosse, in addition to assisting with football and men's and women's basketball. He was the liaison for contractors on capital projects and managed all facility work orders.
Before joining the ECU staff, Schaefer worked as an event management assistant at Connecticut where he was the primary event manager for volleyball, swimming and diving, and women's lacrosse. He also assisted with game day efforts for men's and women's basketball. During his time at UConn, Schaefer organized and executed preseason meetings with coaching staffs and other departments, including compliance, marketing, equipment and sports medicine.
Shaefer was a graduate of Saint Leo University with a bachelor's degree in sports business.
