Athletics and The Brandr Group Launch Group Licensing for the Scarlet Knights
Apr 14 | General
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for the university's student-athletes covering all the Scarlet Knights' 24 sports. This partnership creates new opportunities for Rutgers University student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) using the school's official trademarks and logos.
"We are very excited to announce our partnership with The Brandr Group," said Jeff Poulard, Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and DEI. "As the NIL landscape continues to evolve, we remain committed to making strategic partnerships that provide robust tools and resources for all our 730 student-athletes. TBG is an industry leader in the group licensing space, and we look forward to creating exciting new opportunities that will allow licensees, retailers and ultimately our fans to support our Scarlet Knights through co-branded merchandise."
The collaboration with The Brandr Group allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with the Scarlet Knights' logos and marks. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join TBG's program that will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes with no limit to the athlete's individual NIL rights. Potential licensees interested in learning more should contact Rick Perko at TBG.
The company will develop and facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of current student-athletes. Some examples of group licensing include an athlete's inclusion in trading card programs, video games, and co-branded jerseys, which would include the student-athlete's name and number, as well as Rutgers University trademarks and logos.
"Rutgers University has an incredible reputation that will allow us to create meaningful opportunities for their student-athletes," said Wesley Haynes, TBG CEO. "Through this new agreement, Scarlet Knights student-athletes will be able to benefit from their NIL through co-branded opportunities across Rutgers University's merchandising and sponsorship portfolio. This will open new doors for them to financially benefit from their NIL, while also creating new avenues for engagement for the school's passionate fan base."
The TBG partnership will offer fans an opportunity to purchase official Rutgers Athletics merchandise, including team jerseys, with the name and number of their favorite Scarlet Knights if the student-athletes have joined the respective group licensing program. The product offerings will continue to expand as as TBG enters into future agreements with applicable Rutgers trademark licensees.
