Meet The 2022 Volleyball Newcomers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Eight newcomers will be featured on the 2022 Rutgers volleyball roster this fall. Four transfers and four freshmen will join the seven returning Scarlet Knights to play in the nation's top conference.

MEET THE NEW VOLLEYBALL SCARLET KNIGHTS

Alyssa Nayar - New Scarlet Knight - Volleyball

AT THE NET - UALR:

  • Played in 268 sets over 77 matches in her three seasons at Little Rock
  • Tallied 1,814 assists to rank 10th in school history
  • Collected 550 digs, 53 service aces, 49 total blocks and 63 kills
  • Averaged 6.77 assists during career
  • Named to the Arkansas Classic All-Tournament Team. 
  • Played in 105 sets across all 29 matches (2021)
  • Set up 896 assists with 8.53 assists per set (2021)
  • Served up 27 aces averaging 0.26 per set (2021)
  • Registered 236 digs for 2.25 digs per set (2021)
  • Third in the Sun Belt in total assists (896) (2021)
  • Ranked fifth in the Sun Belt with 8.55 assists per set (2021)
  • Tallied eight double-doubles (2021)
  • Started in 19 of the 20 matches (2020)
  • Tallied 1,547 assists on the season with 159 digs, nine service aces, eight total blocks and 15 kills (2020)
  • Averaged 7.46 assists per set (2020)
  • Also collected 2.24 digs per set while also averaging 0.21 kills and 0.11 blocks per set (2020)
  • Seventh in the Sun Belt in total assists (530) (2020)
  • Recorded a career-high 52 assists in a 3-1 win over Louisiana (Nov. 18) at the Sun Belt Tournament (2020)
  • Registered nine matches with 30-plus assists (2020)
  • Played in 91 sets over 28 matches, making eight starts (2019)
  • Tallied 381 assists, 157 digs and 17 service aces (2019)
  • Added 21 kills and nine total blocks (2019)

 

AT THE NET – HIGH SCHOOL:

  • Played club volleyball for Blocksport (2015-18) and Excel (2019)
  • Team captain of Blocksport (2015-18).
  • Led basketball team to the state finals her freshman year
  • Member of the National Honor Society
  • Four-time academic all-district honoree. 

 

PERSONAL:

  • Daughter of Reggie and Tiffany 
  • Father ran track and mother played volleyball at South Carolina
  • Has a brother, Spencer, and a sister, Tia 
  • Plans to major in mechanical engineering

 

NAYAR ON CHOOSING RUTGERS: "I wanted to play in the Big Ten and graduate from their outstanding engineering program. I am thrilled about playing in the Big Ten."

AT THE NET – TULANE:

  • Played in 50 sets in 21 matches
  • Second on the team with 369 assists, averaging 7.38 per set
  • Recorded a season-high 45 assists in conference play against Cincinnati (Nov. 12)
  • Earned two double-doubles with 10 digs and over 40 assists in wins over Sam Houston (Sept. 17) and Cincinnati (Nov. 12)
  • Logged 10+ assists in 11 matches, totaling 20 or more in nine matches and 30 or more in six matches
  • One kill shy of a triple-double against Houston (Sept. 17)

 

AT THE NET – HIGH SCHOOL:

  • Two-time First Team All-State
  • 2019 Mercury All-Area Player of the Year
  • 2018 First Team All-District honors
  • Helped her team to the No. 1 ranking in the state of Pennsylvania
  • Led team to back-to-back PAC titles and District I championships in 2018 and 2019

 

PERSONAL

  • Daughter of Brian and Tivonnia
  • Has one brother, Cameron
  • Brother played basketball at Stetson and Milwaukee
  • Planning to major in political science

  • Appeared in nine sets
  • Earned a spot on the Dean's List for the 2021 fall semester


AT THE NET – HIGH SCHOOL

  • A four-year letterwinner at Sacred Heart Academy
  • Two-time AAU All-American
  • AVCA High School Honorable Mention All-American honoree her senior season
  • 2020 and 2019 AVCA High School All-Region selection
  • Guided her Sacred Heart Academy team to the regional finals in 2020
  • Picked up 2020 all-region and all-district tournament team honors and was named the Sacred Heart Academy Defensive MVP
  • Played club volleyball for the UNION Under Armour Volleyball Club
  • Member of the National Honor Society and a four-year member of the Principal's List
  • Named to the KHSAA Academic All-State team
  • Logged over 85 community service hours during her high school career

 

PERSONAL

  • Daughter of Jeremiah and Christina
  • Has two brothers, Jacob and Brady, and one sister, Macy
  • Plans to major in criminal justice


MALONE ON CHOOSING RUTGERS: "I chose Rutgers for their high level of volleyball and academic reputation. The coaching staff and players were immediately welcoming and open to me joining the team. I was looking for a family feel and Rutgers immediately felt like the right fit."
